“Big Church, Big Heart, Big Influence”

In 1994, God gave a vision to Kenneth Chin that revealed His heart’s desire to bring revival and transformation to and through the youths in Malaysia and from Malaysia to the world. Although Kenneth was prepared to believe God for the birth of a radical youth ministry that will carry out the mission effectively, he was overwhelmed with the thought that the vision included planting a church.

By the grace of God and with the support of his wife, Sandra, Kenneth founded the Asian Youth Ambassadors (AYA) one month after his wedding in October 1995. Both husband and wife began an exciting journey of faith that has seen God’s faithfulness and power in transforming lives of hundreds of youth till this day, turning them around to become purposeful, passionate and productive servants of God and responsible citizens of the community.

In August 1999, while Kenneth was on a sponsored break in the United States, God brought to his attention again the ‘idea’ of planting a church. This time, there was an even greater sense of urgency. It was as if God was saying that if Kenneth failed to do this, he would fail completely to see the fulfilment of the vision, and thereby fail in his calling altogether.

By October of the same year, Kenneth took leave from the awesome church he was already serving to pray concerning the birth of this new church. Two young adults joined him and together the three spent many months seeking God for His direction. They met at AYA Centre from November 1999 to February 2000 every Sunday for worship and prayer and a short devotion.

Acts Church was officially birthed on 27th February 2000 with three more members added to the original three. Sandra had to stay back at their former church to help the youth ministry weather through the transition created by Kenneth’s absence. She did such an amazing job that until today, relationship with that former church remains strong. Less than six months later, Sandra joined her husband and 15 others as new members of Acts and immediately utilised her experience and expertise to help build a strong worship ministry.

God’s call to both Kenneth and Sandra was clear and unchanging even with the birth of Acts. They were to raise up a generation (just as David served his generation – Acts 13:36) whose first priority and purpose was to please God and do His will. God promised Kenneth that if he would obey Him to plant and shepherd a local church that would reach out primarily to the X generation, He would bless the work and transform the ‘X’ to become the ‘Acts’ generation. He promised that this local church would be an international movement and a model to many and that if we will remain faithful to build according to His pattern, we will see “one generation praise His name to another…”

Today, Acts has grown from a congregation of 3 to over 1,700 people, with service plants in Cyberjaya, Nilai, Ampang, Petaling Jaya, and Cheras. Acts has also ventured beyond the shores of Malaysia with churches in the Singapore, Indonesia, Botswana, London, Melbourne… with many more in the pipeline, as the Holy Spirit leads!

We continue in our journey – learning, changing and growing as we go – dependent on His Spirit and desperate for His manifest presence. Acts desires that lives be transformed and God be glorified!

1. We believe the Scripture, both the Old and the New Testament, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men, and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12).

2. We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and externally existing in the three Persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).

3. We believe that Jesus Christ is the true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross, a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scripture. On the third day, He rose bodily from the dead. He ascended on high, and is now our High Priest and Advocate (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25).

4. We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, and during this age to convict men of sin, regenerate the believing sinners, indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and fruitful service (John 16:7-10; John 16:13-15; 2 Corinthians 1:22; Romans 8:9).

5. We believe that man was created in the image of God, but fell into sin and is therefore lost and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained (Genesis 1:26-28; Genesis 2:7; Romans 3:23; Romans 8:8; Titus 3:5).

6. We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provides the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and thus become children of God (John 1:12; John 3:5-7, 16-17; Romans 3:24, 25; Romans 5:8-10; Ephesians 1:7; Ephesians 2:13; Colossians 1:7, 20; Hebrews 9:22; 1 John 1:7).

7. We believe that Water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances to be observed by the Church during this present age. They are, however, not regarded as a means of salvation (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:41; Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

8. We believe that the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in its totality is the Body of which Christ is the Head, and of which all true believers are a part of (Ephesians 4:4-16).

9. We believe that in a particular locality, the Church is an organised body of believers who have voluntarily bound themselves together in fellowship for the worship of God, for mutual encouragement and service, spiritual nourishment and growth, and for the proclamation of the Gospel of Christ to the world (Hebrews 10:24, 25).

10. We believe that partnership in such a local Church is a privilege and responsibility properly extended only to those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour and Lord, and who are willing to submit to the authority of the Church (Hebrews 13:17).

11. We believe in the personal and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and this blessed hope has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believers (1 Thessalonians 3:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 10:37, 38; James 5:7, 8; Revelation 22:12).

12. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord; of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment (1 Thessalonians 4:14-17; Philippians 3:20-21; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10; Revelation 19:11-16; Revelation 21:1-3).

Rev Kenneth Chin, a lawyer by training, has dedicated the past 17 years of his life to help inspire people to believe. 16 years ago, Kenneth founded the Acts Church, a dynamic family church that has grown from 3 people to over 1600 to date with a clear mission to “make disciples that will make the difference”.

As a preacher, Pastor Kenneth crosses both international and denominational borders with the message of faith and faithfulness and is fully committed to strengthening believers in and through the local church as true agents of change and hope in this.

The leadership team or the Senior Pastors’ Office (SPO) exists to support the vision, calling and ministry of the Senior Minister and to help uphold his integrity, sanctity and sanity as he, and his household, serves the Lord with passion and the church with compassion.
